Under $10,000: demonstration and education

The Unitree R1 series ($4,900-$10,500) is the cheapest entry point. Critical caveat: the R1 AIR and base R1 are not programmable and cannot grasp objects. They walk, gesture, and demonstrate humanoid form, but you cannot write code to control them or give them tasks. They are essentially animated mannequins.

The R1 EDU ($10,500) is Unitree’s cheapest programmable humanoid. If you want to actually develop software for a humanoid robot, this is the real starting price, not $4,900.

$10,000-$30,000: research and development

This is where useful humanoid robots begin:
